It looks like the Van Wagenen's are staying in Provo for Christmas. I have never not been "home" for Christmas. I was so sad. I love my family and their many traditions. I have found a brighter side of things now. I can decorate my first Christmas tree! I have a few ideas and would love your input. I want to start right now!
I love the idea of a silver and white tree\
I love the all gold

so sad! what happened?? i thought you already had tickets and everything? i think the all gold suits you. but they all look lovely! have fun decorating!
I say DO ALL! ;o) Amazing sales happen after Christmas so go small this year. Hobby Lobby marks their stuff down super cheap the day after Christmas. I love to add to my collection each year from them. You have one out where you are.
You know me, or maybe you don't. I have 4 full size trees. It didn't start out that way. I started with one small tree the second year we were married. I had the ornaments from when I was growing up and a couple of John's. The first year we were married we didn't have a tree and I wish we did. We didn't get one because we were going home for Christmas ... and it felt blah around our home. I would never do that again!
I have one tree with the ornaments I have painted - a phase I went through several years ago - and that is my main tree.
I have a "gold" tree in my dining room which has ornaments that my Grandmother would give to me each year as it was her favorite tree. I love hanging up her ornaments and remembering her. I have gold ornaments of the some of the temples I have attended, cities we have visited, etc.
I have our "Family Memory" tree. Each year the kids (and John and I) get an ornament(s) to remind us of what happened during the year. I journal about their ornament so they understand why they received an arrow head or dream catcher (from this year's M Family reunion to the Indian State Park) for their ornament. This year I am super excited to give Jaley one of her ornaments because it reminds me of our daily walks to her school each morning (she could take the bus, but would rather walk with me and have some alone time ... which I LOVE).
The final tree is an overflow tree. Misc ornaments. I would love to do a Santa, Snowman, Nativity, Gingerbread tree, but alas, no room.
Sorry, so long. You asked for it!
Have fun decorating and developing your own traditions! I love family traditions and I want to start the elf on a shelf tradition you shared.
These are all so pretty! We're thinking of going with a silver-related theme (nothing definite yet). It will be our first tree, too.
We were away from family for the first time when we first moved to KZ. It didn't even feel like Christmas- Brooke had to work and I tried to figure out our Russian vacuum cleaner. Depressing.
BUT yours will be nice (and NOT depressing) because you'll be able to pick and choose from whatever traditions you want! You'll have a tree, and you'll get to spend all day cuddled up together. :) And at least you get to go home for Thanksgiving, if nothing else.
